Get to know Ed & Christél

When do you feel most like yourself?

E: In the heat of storytelling with a glass of wine in my hand.

What are you lowkey obsessed with?

C: Rusks.

If Pure Beginnings were a person, how would you describe them at a party?

E: The approachable one, open, empathetic and easy to strike up a conversation, an unexpected sharp and good sense of humour, clearly intelligent but understated and subtle.

C: That person that you’ve just met, but feels like you’ve know them your whole life.

What is something you can admit to now that you’re older, that you would never have previously admitted about yourself?

E: I did nothing to deserve my calves.

C: Under all these layers, I’m pretty goofy.

What’s one non-negotiable in your daily routine?

C: Movement. Whether it’s a walk around the block, a quick 20min run, or roller out my pilates mat for a core & stretch workout.

How do you stay grounded when life gets chaotic?

E: Looooooong hot showers.

C: Breathwork + voice notes to my bestie in Stilbaai

What’s something you’re proud of that not many people know about?

E: I taught myself how to speak Portuguese whilst living in the bush and doing missionary work in the Mozambican Delta.

C: I won the big battle against anorexia at age 17.

What rituals or routines keep you balanced/grounded/connected?

E: Weekly solo strength workouts with a noice-cancelling headset and good tunes, Croissant-Sundays and sharing end of day “High-Lows” with my girls, early Saturday mornings pruning the garden.

What’s something you believe in deeply, even if it’s not popular?

E: That ‘braaibroodjies’ must be prepared with both mayonaiseandchutney on the inside and butter on the outside.C: The Slow Life.

Can you share a challenge you’ve overcome that made you stronger?

E: Figuring out the red, white, yellow and purple in-put/out-put cables from our television to the surround sound and amplifier. It made me realize that I can be technical if I want (need) to be.

Your biggest surprise in life so far?

C: I definitely over romanticized motherhood & parenthood. Oi. It’s bloody hard. But deeply grateful for the journey.
